Plays and Video Games

In this weeks Chapter, I was heavily intrigued by the amount of analysis that went into plays and how important the movements on stage where. My favorite play is Death of a Salesman where stage direction and action is very important to convey a message. While thinking about this, I thought about how movement in RPG video games is the same. To be put in a role then to play that role, you have to take the right directions. If you do it wrong, then you mess up in the game. Plays are important to our culture because they bring alive literature in a way that we ourselves can become the roles ourselves. In a way, it's like we're in a play every day!

  1. I would have never compared video games with plays, but I see your point. I agree that plays are important to our culture and to our history. If there were not something about plays that made them timeless, then I do not think that they would still be in production today.

  2. Movement and stage direction are really so important in a play! I've never really thought about it, I've always just taken it for granted until I read this chapter. But, could you imagine watching a play where there is no movement or stage direction? It would totally destroy the play! It's really so important!

  3. That is such an interesting comparison I never would have made! But if I look at those games in that way I might actually do better, thanks! :) I also agree that plays are important to our culture because it brings out a different perspective of literature. And just like Gardner says in the chapter, each director can add their own identity to the play giving a new perspective to the play which can keep the play forever changing and adapting. I think that is really interesting.
